Stress is the body's reaction to any change that requires an adjustment or response. The body reacts to these changes with physical, mental, and emotional responses. Stress is a normal part of life. Many events that happen to you and around you and many things that you do yourself to put stress on your body. You can experience stress from your environment, your body, and your thoughts.
Generally, stress is associated to internal as well as external factors. The internal factors include your body's capacity to respond to stress producing factors, your body's ability to deal with external factors that induce stress.
Many people don't take care of their body these days. They exert their body to the extreme thinking that the body will adapt to the stress condition being imposed upon. But be aware that our body has a limit and there is a certain capacity to which it can function. No matter how strong your body is, exceeding its capacity over and over again without balancing it with proper rest would have a devastated effect one day.
While the effects of stress on the body are generally thought of in the physical sense, they can also result in mental strain. Symptoms of stress on the mind could be impaired judgment and indecisiveness. Forgetfulness and memory lapses are also common and on the extreme end depression. The mental effects of stress can be frightening.
Hair is considered by many a barometer of your inner health. So in stressful situations your hair may be the first part of your body to feel the repercussions. Hair loss is just another annoying way it can get the best of you. It basically boils down to your body being out-of-whack. This is just one of the many effects that stress can have on the body.
The more common physical effects of stress on the body include headaches, chest pains, stomach upsets, sleep-related problems and high blood pressure. There are other, less common physical effects of stress such as hives, hyperventilation, heart palpitations, and several forms of heart disease. Sometimes, improper methods used for stress management may further complicate stress-related problems.
Stress can most certainly affect our behavior, leading to disadvantages in a social context, as well as negative lifestyle behaviors, such as over-eating, smoking and drinking excessively. Others may manifest effects of stress on the body in less obvious ways.
When your stress has been in your system for more than a year or so, it is undoubtedly chronic type. The consequences of chronic stress will give you severe insomnia. This means you will have difficulty in falling or staying asleep. In addition, stress can result to unhealthy diet. You are like to eat a lot but feel lazy to exercise. Poor eating habits and absence of exercise will make you overweight or obese. Your body will turn out prone to diseases if long-term stress is felt. Your mood changes and you feel irritable. When you are emotionally troubled, you get depressed and anxious. In some cases, people with chronic stress that leads to severe depression are suicidal.
