Essay Examples
Essay examples will help you in finding out the different ways for writing an essay. There are different types of essays and all require different approaches to write them in a proper manner.
Essays may be divided in accordance with their varying themes into three main classes: i) Descriptive ii) Narrative and iii) Reflective or Expository
(i)???????????????? A descriptive essay describes a place or a scene or a season or a journey or the like in such a way that the reader can, by reading it, form a clear idea about it. Essays on a city or village, a season, a stormy day, a house on fire, a railway journey, a death bed scene etc. are all Descriptive essays.
(ii)?????????????? A narrative essay as its name suggests narrates an event or incident in the order in which it occurred. Biographical sketches, accidents like breaking out of a fire, railway or street accident, historical events etc. come under this head.
(iii)???????????? A reflective or expository essay neither describes nor relates the subject but explains it because the subject of such an essay being abstract can’t be described or narrated. Essays on such abstract subjects Thrift, Discipline, Love of Home, Friendship, Modesty etc. Essays on topics like the Autobiography of a tree, If I were a Dictator etc. and essays on such social, educational and political questions like caste system, female education, the beggar problem, the freedom of press etc. are all reflective or expository essays.
Essays, how ever, can’t always be grouped so rigidly into such water tight compartments as descriptive, narrative and reflective. In describing a battle field, for example, one may sometimes reproduce reflection as occasion arises just as in writing upon a subject like Mercy or Modesty one may introduces some description. In fact there is no strict rule of writing essays. The division, though artificial, is made for our convenience.
Some important points that you should always are-
1)????? Order of arrangement- One important principle of essay writing is the order of arrangement of ideas or events showing the gradual development or the subject. That is to say, all ideas or thoughts related to the main topic must be arranged in a logical order and not in disorderly or confused fashion. If there are events connected with the subject, they must be arranged in the order in which they took place. A desultory arrangement of ideas, thoughts or events is sure to mar the beauty of your essay.
2)????? Variety: There should also be variety in essay construction in order to obviate the feeling of monotony. By variety we mean different kinds of sentence construction in a paragraph as also paragraphs of different lengths in a literary composition. If all the paragraphs of an essay, for example, be of the same length and if the sentences of a paragraph be of the same nature, the essay and the paragraph will appear to be dull and monotonous. That is why the readers want variety in both the paragraphs and sentence construction of an essay.
