Time Management For Working College Students - Directed To The Students Earning Their Bread
A lot of students have learned in due course of time that mastery of proper time management is essential to get through college.
Proper time management skill can save you tons of aches and troubles in your college life. Some are lucky enough to be blessed with teachers who teach them the ways of proper management of time. But for most, it is left up to them to learn about it the difficult way.
You will soon realize that with proper management of your time, you can comfortably deal with your academics as well as your extra-curricular activities after school.
It is quite simple to maintain a successful time management strategy. You start off by setting up a calendar for yourself at the beginning of each semester. Once school begins, you will realize which activities are important and which activities are not really all that important.
Consider the people who work their way through college. In case you have a dependant family which, working will be your highest priority. Some jobs offer various shifts and choose a shift which will have the least impact on your studies.
Your classes should be your immediate next highest priority. You need to choose class schedules which don not interfere with your work.
Next in line would be your study time. Give yourself a couple of hours to study before classes. This study time can be used when you take breaks from work or when you travel to and from work or class.
Your next priority should be your family. Set apart some time to help in household chores, payment of bills and other domestic stuff.
And finally, make sure that you set aside some time for yourself given your busy schedule. Even if you have nothing to do, it always helps to relax a little or spend some time with friends. This would the time to let your hair down for the day.
If you feel that this might not work for you, you could try to have a work schedule during the night and a school scheduled during the day. Using this option will ensure that you are not constantly running around all day to and from work and class.
By using this type of schedule, you can get yourself involved in a lot more activities in school, particularly if you have given yourself enough time between the end of one schedule and the start of another schedule.
By willing to be adaptable and flexible and following a time management strategy with determination, you can comfortably finish a degree, and earn in the meantime ensuring that you have a decided edge in succeeding in life and getting where you want to be in the future.
This brings up the question of what is so important about having a career while studying in college and being able to adapt to both.
Very few privileged students actually have the proper resources to help them get through college without having to work for their tuition fee and the like while most do not have that luxury. This is what makes them even more determined to get through college by working.
Another huge advantage of working while you are studying is that you are exposed to a working life and the working, professional culture very early. This instills in you a great sense of responsibility at a very early stage.
None of this would be possible if you are unable to manage your time wisely. It is just a question of discipline and how determined you are to achieve your goals.
