Supply Chain Management Case Study | Case Studies
Wanting to pursue management studies, I keep reading different articles and blogs. Since I want to do specialisation in Supply Chain Management, I have been looking for articles and blogs in this particular area. After going through few articles, I could understand that supply chain management is an idea of applying a total systems approach to managing an entire flow of information, materials and services from raw material suppliers through factories and warehouses to the end customer.
Even though this definition of Supply Chain Management is simple enough, I couldn't get a real picture of the topic. So I started surfing internet for more information. In one of the articles, Supply Chain Management was defined as a combination of art and science that goes into improving the way a company finds the raw components it needs to make a product or service and deliver it to customers. Supply chain management mainly deals with spanning all movement and storage of raw materials, work-in-process inventory and finished goods from point-of-origin to point-of-consumption. Additionally, organizations find that they must rely on effective supply chains to successfully compete in the global market.
Although my understanding of the concept seemed clear, I wanted to know more as to how and where this could be applied. After searching for a while, I came across a website, www.ibscdc.org. This site seemed to be very interesting since it had case studies on every managerial topic.
Case study, as one of my Professors mentioned, is one of the several ways of doing research others being experiments, surveys, archival information etc. After visiting www.ibscdc.org and going through few case studies, even I believe that case studies are one of the best methodologies as now I have a clear idea about the concepts which I was earlier confused about. These case studies are mainly targeted for management students but others who are interested in gaining knowledge on management topics can go through this website.
The organization IBSCDC has even started course case mapping, a way of offering an entire course through case studies. With the help of these course case maps, one can learn the complete subject through case studies.
In one of these course case maps, I came across case studies on supply chain management. These case studies dealt with how these supply chain strategies had been implemented in companies after they realized flaws in their supply chain. The companies have implemented different supply chain strategies like mass customisation, global sourcing, outsourcing, logistics management, value density, etc.
Example Supply Chain Management Case Studies are :
Transnet, The State-owned South African Transport and Logistics Group: Maria Ramos' Turnaround Strategies
Transport Corporation of India's Supply Chain Solution: Nervous System of the Organised Retail in India
IBSCDC, with well over 2700 case studies, 700 structured assignments and 900 teaching notes, is Asia Pacific's largest repository of business management case studies. All these case studies are developed for MBA programs, Executive MBA programs, Executive Development Programs
